SCUBA Diving

I started SCUBA diving in 1993, after my sister got certified during a trip to Cozumel. She gave me a gift certificate for a introduction dive, and I decided to just add some additional money and get certified. Between 1993 and 1996, I did around 100 dives, about half in Sweden and the rest in/around Sharm el-Sheikh (or technically Naama Bay) in Egypt.
After I got married and eventually moved to the US, I put the diving on the back burner, just did a couple of dives during a trip to Cozumel in 2004.

In 2014 I did a refresher dive (it's recommended if you haven't done any dives in 2 years or more) through a local dive store here in Dallas. I also had my gear serviced, and amazingly enough it was all in perfect working order. I only replaced the console (as the dive computer from 1993 was out of batteries and seriously outdated, and the compass had some minor issues). I would have imagined that keeping it in storage for that many years would have caused more damage.

During Thanksgiving 2014 I went to Curacao in the Caribbean and did 9 dives. Above is a picture of me before a dive at Kokomo Beach. I actually brought my own gear, and the dive masters were amazed how old it was. The equipment have improved some since then, and if I continue to dive more frequently I probably will update at least a few items.

I also filmed all my dives with my GoPro. I lost a lot of good footage when the files did not get copied over correctly before the memory card was overwritten. But I have several hours of recorded material to play with. Below is one film I edited after I got home.

In 2015 I went to Hawaii (Big Island) and did a night dive with manta rays. This was an amazing experience!

I am looking forward to my next diving adventure!
